Module 4: Finding Articles

This module covers how to use online periodical indexes to identify and locate articles on a subject.

Note: The followng terms are used interchangably in libraries and universities, though their meanings may be slightly different: database, online database, article index, electronic database, online periodical index, electronic index, journal article database, journal article index.

After completing this module you should be able to:

  • distinguish between popular and scholarly periodicals
  • choose an online database appropriate to your information need
  • use it to identify an article on a topic
  • search the library catalog to locate the periodical that contains your article
